CellFactor: Revolution

CellFactor: Revolution

In CellFactor: Revolution players take one of three characters, Black Ops, Bishop and Guardian, through industrial settings in the near future on Earth.

After a series of cataclysmic events, the planet is now dominated by a superpower dedicated only to the advancement of technology – no matter what the human cost. This technology forms the basis of a cybernetic-enhanced humanoid army, whose telekinetic powers are used to maintain relative order across the planet.

A scattered human resistance fights for one last shred of freedom, tapping into psychic abilities in attempt to conquer what appears to be an invincible enemy. The gamer can play as characters from both sides of this war. Can you save Earth from techno-destruction?

Secret Maryo Chronicles

Secret Maryo Chronicles

Secret Maryo Chronicles is a 2D Jump&Run Game built upon SDL. It is open-source software so the source is included in the download package from Sourceforge.

Anyone who played games back in the day of the SNES will recognize just about everything in this game except maybe for the added extra of a level editor. Activated by F8 in the game, you can insert any graphic file as a background or massive sprite in the game. Many standard graphics like hedges and ground sprites are included. You can insert enemies, set the player's start position on the level, insert active sprites, and create semi-solid sprites which the player can jump through, but can not fall through.

Note : The Background Music needs to be installed to the game program directory.

Kong

Kong

Get ready for Kong, an action game which can be played in multiplayer mode or against computer controlled bots from a top-down perspective. There are no tanks and soldiers here - only orangutans armed to the teeth. Depending on the mode of play you choose (deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag), the goal is different, but the means are always the same - a lot of weapons. These are of different types, such as lasers, rocket launchers or machine guns that can can be enhanced with various "power ups" that are distributed across each level.

Each level is full of new and surprising obstacles and objects to make your life easier or more difficult depending on the scenario. Although I never got to experience it, I imagine that the multiplayer mode with friends across the internet would also be a hell of a lot of fun in this game. The developers have purposely gone for a "Cell-Shading" technique which gives the characters a cartoon look and feel. The sound effects, especially as regards the weapons, are particularly good giving the game an extra touch of class.

Pros:
Great graphcs and sound
Lots of fun and challenging levels
Three different game modes

Cons:
Multiplayer mode could be ruined by time lag

RunMan: Race Around the World

RunMan: Race Around the World

Runman is a little yellow dude who's only passion is running as fast as possible, and in RunMan: Race Around the World he'll do exactly that. Through 6 worlds and over 35 levels you'll meet some bizarre monsters and obstacles while achieving over the top velocities.

With crayon-like 'crude' (in the developer's words) graphics, great old music that has lapsed into the public domain and a completely silly story, RunMan is irreverent and tons of fun. The controls are really simple, but the way RunMan interacts with the environment adds layers of complexity to the levels. RunMan is indestructible, but as everything's timed you'll want to find the fastest way through all the mayhem to record a top time.

RunMan: Race Around the World can be played in windowed or full screen mode, you can save 'ghosts' of good times, so you can race yourself and the whole soundtrack in available in the OGGs folder when you unzip the game. Visit the game's homepage and you can find other people's ghosts too.

Pros:
Fast
Great style
Amazingly playable

Cons:
Like Sonic, you have to learn some levels to really enjoy them
